About MicroCement
MicroCement is a thin, seamless decorative coating used to create continuous surfaces without visible joints or grout lines. It can be applied to floors, walls, bathrooms, kitchens, furniture and many other surfaces, depending on the DECCO system selected.
DECCO MicroCement can be applied over a wide variety of properly prepared substrates, including concrete, cement screeds, drywall, cement board, ceramic tile, MDF, glass and metal. The substrate must always be solid, stable, dry and properly prepared before installation.
Yes. One of the major advantages of MicroCement is that it can be applied over properly prepared existing tile, allowing many surfaces to be transformed without demolition.
Tile joints must be properly treated and the appropriate DECCO primer, basecoat and reinforcement system must be used according to the installation guidelines.
MicroCement is best applied by a trained installer to guarantee a seamless finish. We can connect you with certified applicators in your area.
No. MicroCement creates a continuous, seamless surface without traditional grout lines, making it ideal for contemporary floors, walls, bathrooms and other architectural surfaces.
The right system depends on your application, existing substrate, desired texture, performance requirements and installation experience.
House of DECCO's Build My System tool guides you through these selections and recommends the products and quantities needed for your project.
The difference is primarily texture and function.
Fine creates the smoothest, most refined finish.
Medium provides slightly more texture and visual movement.
Coarse is generally used as a basecoat and can also be selected when a more pronounced, textured appearance is desired.
House of DECCO offers a curated selection of DECCO colors organized into four color families: Neutral, Warm, Cool and Earth.
Because microcement is hand-applied, the final appearance of a color can vary slightly depending on texture, application technique, lighting and sealer. We recommend reviewing a physical sample whenever exact color selection is critical.
Not exactly—and that's part of the character of MicroCement.
MicroCement is a hand-applied decorative finish. Natural variations in movement, texture, tonal intensity and trowel marks are expected and contribute to the unique appearance of each surface.
For projects where color and texture are critical, we recommend creating an on-site mock-up before proceeding with the full installation.
Coverage varies by product, substrate condition, texture and application technique.
Use the House of DECCO project calculator to estimate the amount of material required for your project. We always recommend having sufficient material available before beginning each continuous surface, as running out during application may result in visible differences or require recoating the entire area.
Yes, particularly if this is your first MicroCement project.
Less experienced installers may use more material than the estimated coverage, especially when working on walls, ceilings or highly textured substrates. Having additional material available also helps ensure uninterrupted application of continuous surfaces.
For smaller projects, a single experienced installer may be sufficient. For areas larger than approximately 400–500 sq ft, installation by one person is not recommended.
Large seamless surfaces require continuous application. As a general guideline, a team of at least three installers should be considered for approximately every 1,000 sq ft.
No. DECCO products are engineered to work together as a complete system.
Combining primers, MicroCements, sealers or other components from different manufacturers may create compatibility and performance issues and may affect warranty eligibility.
Certain DECCO systems and applications are suitable for DIY users, while others require greater installation experience. Your substrate, project size, application area and desired finish all affect the level of difficulty. Follow the DECCO Installation Guidelines carefully and use House of DECCO's Build My System tool to identify the appropriate system for your project.
Yes. MicroCement is a decorative coating and will not correct structural movement.
The substrate must be solid, rigid and securely fixed before installation. Do not install MicroCement over substrates or structures exhibiting movement, as cracks or other failures may transfer through to the finished surface.
Active cracks should not simply be covered with MicroCement.
Stable or dormant cracks must be properly assessed and repaired before installation. Active structural movement can transfer through the MicroCement and result in reflective cracking.
Yes. Proper sanding between the specified coats is an important part of the DECCO installation process. It removes surface imperfections and helps prepare the surface for the following coat.
Always follow the sanding recommendations provided in the corresponding DECCO Installation Guidelines.
For best results, maintain surface and ambient temperatures between approximately 60°F and 80°F (15°C to 25°C), with adequate ventilation.
High temperatures and direct sunlight can accelerate drying and reduce working time, while low temperatures can significantly extend curing times.
MicroCement is a seamless coating system. Each coat should be completed continuously across the entire surface whenever possible.
Applying fresh material over areas that have already begun to dry may create visible lap marks, overlaps or color variations.
When installed as part of the appropriate DECCO system and protected with the specified sealer, DECCO Microcement can be used in wet areas.
The complete system—including substrate preparation, waterproofing where required, MicroCement and sealer—must be installed according to the DECCO Installation Guidelines.
Yes. DECCO MicroCement can be used in showers and other wet-room applications when the correct system, substrate preparation, waterproofing and sealing procedures are followed.
For wet rooms, showers and other areas exposed to continuous water, allow a minimum curing period of 7 days before exposing the finished surface to water.
Full curing and final performance continue to develop beyond this initial period.
Keep the area free from traffic for at least 24 hours after completion.
Avoid heavy foot traffic, furniture placement and concentrated loads for a minimum of 72 hours. Curing times may vary depending on temperature, humidity and ventilation.
Under normal conditions, the complete DECCO MicroCement system reaches full mechanical and chemical performance after approximately 21 days.
The surface should be treated with additional care during this initial curing period.
Yes, but the finished surface must be properly protected.
Use a breathable, impact-resistant floor covering to protect against ongoing construction activity. Avoid non-breathable coverings that may trap moisture while the system is curing.
For routine cleaning, use a pH-neutral cleaner with a soft microfiber cloth or mop.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads and harsh chemicals that may damage or prematurely wear the protective sealer.
Acidic or highly alkaline substances such as vinegar, lemon juice and bleach may affect the protective sealer if left on the surface.
Spills should be cleaned promptly, and harsh cleaning chemicals should not be used for routine maintenance.
Like other premium finished surfaces, MicroCement can be damaged by abrasive objects, heavy impacts or furniture dragged across the surface.
Always lift furniture rather than dragging it and use felt pads or protective glides under furniture legs.
Yes. Proper maintenance helps preserve both the appearance and performance of the surface.
Regular cleaning with pH-neutral products is recommended. For floors, periodic application of DECCO Wax Floor Finish provides an additional sacrificial protective layer over the polyurethane sealer, helping reduce wear and extend maintenance intervals.
Yes, although repairs to seamless decorative surfaces may remain slightly visible.
Minor damage can often be repaired using the corresponding DECCO MicroCement system and color, followed by resealing. For larger damage or highly visible areas, refinishing a larger continuous section may provide a more uniform result.
Installation Guidelines, Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are available through House of DECCO and should always be reviewed before beginning installation.
Always use the most current version of the documentation for your DECCO system.
Use Build My System to create a recommended system based on your project, substrate, desired finish and project size.
If you still need assistance, the DECCO team can help you determine the appropriate products for your application.
Yes. DECCO works with contractors, designers, architects and other industry professionals through the DECCO Trade Program, providing product resources, technical guidance and professional support.
